RCW Nursery Garden EXCURSION

RCW Nursery is a gorgeous plant nursery near Jersey Village and Cypress Texas that boasts some of the greatest selections of plants. The nursery grounds are beautifully decorated with a plethora of garden art, birds, a rose house, herb house, and more. This will be a wonderful opportunity to test out your metering and Aperture Priority skills for nature photography. You can also bring a guest so you can test out pictures of people with beautiful flowers decorating your background. If you have a reflector this can be a great occasion to use it. If you have a Macro lens this will be your best friend for capturing the most detailed shots of flowers and portraits. A 50mm lens also works very well if you do not own a macro lens. Please arrive 15 minutes early so we can all talk about our camera settings beforehand. Since this is an outdoor event there is always a chance of bad weather. If we are rained out, this excursion will be rescheduled.

Real Estate WORKSHOP

The Real Estate Workshop teaches you the ins and outs of Real Estate Photography. The first 2.5-hours of the Workshop is a lecture styled discussion on the use of camera settings, equipment, and composition techniques to achieve the best results. You will also learn how to overcome typical furstrations of bright windows, bad coloration, focus problems and exposure for indoor and outdoor shots. Once the lecture is done you will be given a 1-hour lunch break. The last 2.5-hours of class consists of a hands-on tutorial on how to manage your real estate photographs using 2 different softwares...PhotoMatix and Lightroom. If you come to class with your laptop and these softwares installed, you are welcome to get hands-on by taking part in actively editing pictures within these softwares. Here you will learn how to Merge HDR images in Photomatix to create dynamic exposures, and complete the final touches including basic brightness, contrast, cropping, and resolution adjustments to comply with HAR image upload standards.

The Outdoor Portrait Workshop shows you the necessary skills and techniques for beautiful outdoor portraits. Advance your skills to the level of a professional portrait photographer. The day begins with 3 hours of classroom education. Here you will learn to adapt your photography knowledge for deeper understanding of exposure, light styling, wireless flash and posing for dynamic outdoor portrait photography. After a 1-hour lunch break we will walk over to the Buffalo Bayou Park (a 5 minute walk) for a 2-hour hands-on photo shoot. This will be your opportunity to put your new found knowledge to work. Your instructor will be by your side to ensure you feel comfortable with your equipment, settings, lighting and posing.  At the end of the day, the instructor will retrieve a copy of the pictures you have taken so your images may be donated to the model.

Funeral Museum EXCURSION

The National Museum of Funeral History was founded in 1992 to collect and preserve the history of the the funeral industry, including how it began and how it has evolved over time. This museum features a broad spectrum of funeral-related topics ranging from the ancient embalming rituals of Egypt to remembering celebrities and public figures and a collection of vintage hearses. This will be a fascinating opportunity to photograph some interesting relics that go hand-in-hand with the spirit of Halloween. A lens that allows to create a small depth of field will be a nice choice to allow you to get creative with your depth of field. A wide angle lens can also be useful when taking photos indoors where you are restricted on space. Please arrive 20 minutes early to discuss camera settings.

The Safari Crash Course Workshop builds basic camera & equipment knowledge to help you capture amazing pictures while you're on Safari. This course is designed for the most novice of photographers who don't have time to attend a full round of classes. This class cherry-picks, simple easy information that can be applied to safari and wildlife photography in general. This will be a great way to get you jump started without going through extensive education in photography. After a 1-hour discussion in the classroom, we will head over to the Houston Zoo to put your new-found knowledge to use. This will give you the chance to work out the kinks and get familiar with your camera, and recommended equipment while the Instructor is there to assist you. Entrance Fee to the Houston Zoo will be provided for you.

In-Depth Exposure WORKSHOP

The In-Depth Exposure Workshop begins in the classroom with a 2.5-hour in-depth discussion of exposure. The concept of metering and exposure can be tricky, but once you have grasped the concept it will solidify everything you know in photography. In this workshop you will learn how to manage your camera's metering system and gain maximum control over your exposures. By understanding the depths of exposure and metering, you can creatively break outside the box to make dynamic lighting decisions that will help you solve any difficult lighting scenario. Afterward we will head over to the Cockrell Butterfly Center to practice the principles of metering hands-on. The butterfly center is the perfect place to put your knowledge to the test and encounter some beautiful subjects as well. Admission to the Butterfly Center Admission is provided for you. Free parking at the Butterfly Center is limited so you will be responsible for any parking fees you may incur. Holiday Photography WORKSHOP

The Holiday Family Photo WORKSHOP is a 3-hour workshop that shows you how to achieve a classic holiday family photo at home. We will discuss how to use your flash wirelessly with a wireless transmitter/receiver. You will learn techniques with your flash and camera settings to create dynamic warm lighting for Holiday styled portraits. The techniques we will cover can all be achieved  without top of the line equipment. Afterward we will all take turns photographing a mock set-up that will allow you to experience it all first hand. There will be props, including a small Christmas tree and Christmas lights and decor.

Houston Zoo Lights EXCURSION

During the holiday season, the Houston Zoo is illuminated with Christmas lights, carolers and vendors. This is a wonderful evening opportunity to explore the zoo at night and take pictures of Christmas lights. You will get the chance to test out your slow shutter speed skills to achieve some amazing night time shots. Don't expect to see any animals, since they will be asleep while all the festivities take place. You should definitely expect to bring a tripod with you and if you own a remote for your camera you can bring that as well. Tickets for entrance to the Houston Zoo Lights must be purchased online via the Houston Zoo website. Since this is an outdoor event there is always a chance of bad weather.
