The Native American Championship Pow Wow is an annual event with colorful tribal dance contests, an arts & crafts show, teepees, honoring ceremonies, singing and much more. Several hundred Native Americans, representing dozens of tribes from across the United States, will celebrate their culture and heritage. The drums will beat for the dancers in full regalia of feathers, buckskin, bells and bead-work competing for prize money and awards in eighteen different dance categories. This will be an amazing opportunity to take some unique action & event photos. You can test out a range of zoom from wide-angle (below 50mm) to telephoto (above 50mm). You can also experiment with shutter speeds for dancers and aperture for crafts & exhibits. It may be useful to bring a monopod to take the weight off your arms when photographing dancers. A circular polarizer filter can also be helpful to cut down on glare. Plan on meeting near the children’s rides in the back end of Traders Village. Since this is an outdoor event there is always a chance of bad weather. If we are rained out, this excursion will be rescheduled. Please arrive 20 minutes early to discuss camera settings.
